The lunch hour is often viewed by many as simply a one-hour break from work. Of course, people use it to eat their meals, but there should be more to that lunch break than simply having your lunch. Some people use it to make quick worthwhile excursions or to unwind and get a short break from the unforgiving work table.
1. Take a Hike
When none of your friends or workmates invited you for lunch, you can spend the moment alone. It probably will not take you one hour to help yourself to your meal, so you should have some more time to perhaps walk to a nearby park or plaza. This can help you clear and rest your mind for a while, so you become mentally recharged when you get back to your desk.
You don’t have to go out of your office if you don’t feel like joining the others for lunch at a cafeteria. Tell them you brought your own lunch and you’d rather eat it inside your room. This way, you can spend a quiet noon and maybe play music or read a book while you take your brief time off your work. Perhaps you want to take a nap—do so.
3. Go to a Spa
There is nothing more rewarding than spending your short time at a spa and indulging in a relaxing massage. How about that for a noontime treat? You surely will get back to work looking great and invigorated. You may even get surprised looks from your colleagues.
4. Play Your Favorite Music
Take your favorite CD to your work and play it. Listening to your favorite music can reduce stress in the middle of the day. Also, check out new songs, so you don’t get left behind in the trend. Some of your younger coworkers are probably listening to them. It’s good to be in, but it’s all up to your preferences. If you like playing the 60s music, by all means do so. Just keep the volume down.
5. Meet an Old Friend
You probably have a friend, working somewhere in the city, whom you haven’t seen in years. Thirty minutes may not be enough, but it should be better than not being able to catch up with them to pick up where you left off. You both may just be surprised to see each other again.
6. Read a Book
Take a few favorite books, those you haven’t read or finished reading yet, to your work station. Books can take your mind away from your work. When working on projects in front of your computer is starting to become stressful, grab your book and read a few pages. It’s good if you can take your mind off of your work every once in a while.
7. Treat Yourself
Nothing is wrong with going to a lavish café and ordering a superb meal. Get back to work feeling satiated!
