7 Ways On How To Be More Organized And Eliminate Mess

Mess can accumulate easily in our rooms/office, especially for those of us that are too busy working. Many of us live this way our whole lives, failing to realize that some habits can be gradually developed, in order to ensure that clutter is eliminated from our surroundings. Below are these simple habits you can adopt that will help you be more organized:

1. Lessen first, and then organize

declutter your office

Think about decluttering your office. The task can seem too complicated, and merely looking at all the clutter is enough to discourage anyone from undertaking the task. The way to do this is to first focus on one thing. This doesn’t even need to be your whole office: you could just focus on your table first. First get rid of everything you don’t immediately need by placing them in a box. You could store this in your house, or donate it to Goodwill. If you are keeping this box, make sure you label it, so it will be easy for you to find what you need, when you need it. Use closet organizers so everything has its own place in your closet.

2. Remind yourself

Sticky notes, a small notebook or your iPhone Notes can help remind you of your tasks. Some tasks, you might end up forgetting for months if you don’t write them down, so it’s a good habit to write down the things that you need to do. It also helps to have a calendar in your room. Use this for meetings, appointments, dates and small notes.

3. Combine and/or centralize, then handle

If for example you have several email accounts, consider getting all your other emails forwarded to your main email account. This then serves as your main email. Google’s Gmail has a feature that makes it easy to reply to messages using the email to which the message was sent. Emails are best immediately read and kept, or discarded; either way, they are instantly handled. Consider this process for other things in your office. This way, you know exactly where to find them when you need them.

4. Compartments, containers or corners

Placing things in their own compartments, corners or containers makes it easy for you to locate these items without much hassle.

5. Label

In a place where several boxes are placed on top of another, the easiest way to find what you need is to read the label on the box. This is why it’s important to label boxes and things. Get a fat marker for big boxes, and one with a fine tip for smaller containers.

6. Decide fast

decide fast

Some things are kept, while others are thrown away, donated, displayed, or placed somewhere for later use. No matter the case, it is important to decide on what to do with the item, or these items will accumulate and become part of the clutter in your room.

7. Mini-organization

Organizing things need not be done on a large scale. You could organize some of your things when you have 10 minutes of extra time. Making this a habit can help you keep your surroundings clean.

It may take time to develop the habits enumerated above, but developing these habits can actually make the task of keeping your environment tidy and organizing easier. Because tasks are handled on a small scale and following a certain strategy, the task of organizing (and the thought of undertaking it) is less taxing.
