How To Mute Someone On A Skype Call

There are some scenarios when one would want to mute their Skype calls. An urgent phone call, an emergency task, or a person talking in the background could be some of the reasons why. This is why Skype provides you the feature to mute the call for better communication. You can follow the easy steps below to mute your call;

So, how do you mute people on Skype?

First method – Mute your own call

  1. Launch Skype and log in to your account.
  2. Find the one you want to talk to on your Contact List and call him.
  3. While in the call, you will see an icon that looks like a microphone. Click on it to mute your side.

NOTE: This option will only mute your microphone; you will still be able to hear what the other person says on the other side.

Second method – Mute the call on the other side (not really a Skype feature, but this one can help if you don’t want to get distracted by the other line)

  1. Launch Skype and log in to your account.
  2. Find the one you want to talk to on your Contact List and call him.
  3. While in the call, find the microphone and end call button panels. In the same line, you will see a round button with bars. Click on it and a pop up box will open.
  4. Look for the ‘Speaker’ tab and scroll the volume control to zero.

This option won’t let you hear any sound from the other side of the call.

Other things you need to know:

  1. Skype does not include a mute button for the other line as of now.
  2. The second option can be used if the noise is too much that you cannot understand anything – but it is better to ask the person on the other line to mute his microphone since it has the same purpose.
  3. If you are in a group talk, ask your friends to mute their microphones so you can talk freely.
  4. However, if you have other things to do for a while but you still want to leave the call by itself, then you can put the call on hold.
